Community Tree Initiatives

Together, we can plant 500 trees in 2026.

This coming year, with the support of our community, we’re setting an ambitious and transformative goal: planting 500 new shade trees across Monrovia. With tree removals at an all-time high due to ongoing development, and a citywide canopy of just 22% (dropping to only 12% below Foothill Boulevard), many of our streets lack the shade, comfort, and beauty that healthy, vibrant neighborhoods deserve.

To strengthen our canopy while we continue advocating for improved tree protection ordinances, we are launching two community initiatives to help us reach this goal. In addition, Steven Xie, through his Eagle Scout Project, has committed to supporting us through the planting of the first 100 trees.  Click here

Planting shade trees —especially along major streets—will:

  • Cool overheated streets and sidewalks, reducing heat-related health risks

  •  Improve walkability and make it safer and more pleasant to shop, walk, and bike

  •  Support birds, pollinators, and local biodiversity

  • Beautify Monrovia’s corridors, boosting local pride and business vitality

  • Improve air quality and capture stormwater, helping the whole community
