Supporting the First 100 Trees: Steven Xie’s Eagle Scout Project

Steven Xie, a local Scout working toward his Eagle Scout rank, is supporting Grow Monrovia’s community tree efforts through a service project focused on expanding tree canopy where it’s needed most. As part of our shared goal to plant 500 new shade trees, Steven has committed to supporting the planting of the first 100 trees in Monrovia during the coming year.

Steven’s project centers on neighborhoods with the lowest canopy coverage, particularly areas below Foothill Boulevard, where shade is limited and streets experience higher temperatures. By helping provide and plant trees in these areas, his project will directly improve comfort, walkability, and neighborhood health while creating long-term benefits for the community.

Through this Eagle Scout Project, Steven will:

• Support the planting of 100 shade trees in Monrovia neighborhoods

• Help coordinate volunteer planting efforts

• Raise awareness about the importance of urban tree canopy

• Leave a lasting, positive legacy that will benefit residents for generations

This project reflects the spirit of Eagle Scout service: leadership, community impact, and stewardship of the environment. Every tree planted through Steven’s project contributes to a healthier, cooler, and more resilient Monrovia.
