We have documented over 1000 trees removed due to development alone, in the past 3 years. There are no requirements for replacement trees.
Protect Monrovia's Trees
Have you noticed an increase in trees being removed or severely pruned around Monrovia?
We need your help to update Monrovia’s 32-year-old tree ordinance and strengthen protections for our city’s trees. We are currently collecting signatures to place two important local measures on the 2028 ballot, but we are on a very short timeline and need as many Monrovia registered voters as possible to sign.
The proposed changes would bring Monrovia more in line with LA County and neighboring cities that protect a wider range of trees and have standards for replacing trees when they are removed.
If you support stronger protections for Monrovia’s trees, we need your help getting these petitions on the ballot!
1) Strengthen Tree Protection Standards
Monrovia’s current protections are limited, and many mature trees are being removed through development or poor planning without meaningful replacement. This measure would strengthen protections, improve accountability, and help ensure that when significant trees are lost, the community does not permanently lose the environmental benefits they provide.
2) Establish a City Arborist Position
Monrovia manages thousands of city trees, yet currently lacks a dedicated arborist to oversee long-term tree planning, health, and management. This measure aims to create professional oversight for one of our city’s most valuable resources.
Trees provide shade, reduce extreme heat, improve air quality, support wildlife, and preserve neighborhood character. Once mature trees are removed, it can take decades to replace what was lost.
Together, we can help shape a greener, healthier future for Monrovia.
