Foothill Unity Teaching Garden

In 2022, we partnered with Foothill Unity Center to begin a long-term vision for a space where food, learning, and community could grow together. That vision started with the planting of thirteen fruit trees around the edge of their Monrovia site. These trees, generously donated by Steve Ask-List and The Home Depot, were the very first step in transforming an empty space into something vibrant and full of potential. Volunteers from across the city joined in, working side by side to dig, mulch, and plant. Their effort set the foundation for what would become the Unity Teaching Garden.

By 2023, that vision began to take clearer shape. Together with Foothill Unity Center and community members, we helped build out planting beds designed to grow fresh produce. These garden beds now provide a space for fruits, vegetables, and herbs that can support the center’s mission of serving the underserved. Beyond just food, we also focused on biodiversity and beauty by planting native California plants throughout the garden. These additions not only enhance the appearance of the space but also offer important habitat for local pollinators and wildlife.

The Unity Teaching Garden is more than a garden. It is a place where people can come to learn, share, and connect. It supports the local community with fresh food, hands-on education, and a quiet place to reflect and grow. Every tree and plant in the garden is part of a larger story about what we can build when we work together.

We are proud to have played a part in bringing this space to life and are excited to see how the garden continues to evolve in the years ahead.
